Computer programming in our daily life

You may wonder how computer programming affects the average person on a daily basis as many people think that computer programming is only for tech experts and therefore do not see the relevance of the technology to our day to day lives but you may be surprised to learn just how difficult our lives would be without this innovation and how much we rely on it.

In many of our homes, computer programming controls lots of the appliances that we use regularly from the washing machine and dishwasher to the auto timer on the cooker and the coffee machine in fact anything that has a function on it where it can be programmed to follow a set of instructions uses computer technology to do this.

Computer programming does not just affect our everyday lives in our own homes as we encounter programming, even if we are not fully aware of it, whenever we are. Programming is everywhere in the modern world and you can see it in the high street, the workplace, schools, colleges and universities and in the local supermarket. We see bar-code scanners regularly in the supermarket and on most products that we buy and these use computer programming in some stores to help with stock control. Whilst working, whether you are use a word processor to write a letter or an email platform to send messages computer programming is essential. Social media is another platform that we use which relies on programming to work efficiently.

An increasingly common use of computer programming is found in our vehicles as it is used to control pretty much everything from fuel, oil, and power management to cruise control and navigational systems. This can cause problems if something malfunctions as it takes an expert vehicle technician to be able to identify the issue and rectify it. In addition, the traffic system used to control traffic flow in our towns and cities uses computer programming with modern traffic lights containing sensors that are in effect little computers. In larger cities there is often a traffic management hub where operators can adapt the traffic signals depending upon the volume of traffic or in the case of an accident.

So, it is fair to say that computer programming certainly plays a huge role in our daily lives and this is only going to increase in years to come as technology continues to develop at the exponential rate that is the current trend.
